Ultra Suede: In Search Of Halston

This fashion documentary covers the bejeweled era of the 70's and one of it's top designers, Roy "Halston" Frowick. We also get to hear from Vogue's very own Andre' Leon Talley, and his recollections of that time. Halston was definitely larger than life, and his sleek draped designs still remain amongst the best designs of that period and even today. Halston is one of my favorite American designers. I remember studying about Halston designing Jackie O's pillbox hat in the 1960's. Which then made Halston hats a woman's staple. Unfortunately, like many greats in fashion, his jaw-dropping talent was only matched by his ferocious appetite for fame and all the bad things that came with it. The demise of his empire seems to have started when he decided to sell his name to JC Penney. Today joining a huge brand like JC Penney as a designer would mean more revenue and more opportunities for other income levels to enjoy and wear his designs. Unfortunately, Halston was a pioneer of that movement at a time when the increased pressures of having a Ready to Wear, Made to Order and Haute Couture lines just became to much to take on for one person. It's been said that JC Penney demanded 8 collections + accessories a year. Halston was known as a perfectionist. He would therefore not allow any Junior designers to design any licensed products bearing his name. Sadly, the corporate monster pushed him out and the rest is history!

2012 Color of the year goes to.......TANGERINE TANGO

Yesterday Pantone announced that THE color of the year will now be "Tangerine Tango" This color officially known as Pantone 17-463 to the fashion and design community. Tangerine Tango is described by the color authority company to be "a vivacious, enticing hue", "a provocative go-getter", "that's a bit exotic but in a friendly non threatning way".., "a spirited redish- orange that can be sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive." Now, with the colors latest recognition we can count on seeing Tangerine Tango sprinkled in all sorts of products. Here are a few things I found inspired by our new STAR color.... Let's Tango!

Canyons "Live For Snow" shoot.... B.T.S.

Recently, I had the pleasure of styling and collaborating with a great group of people, including the talented photographer Thomas H. Shelby, on the"LIVE FOR SNOW" campaign for The Canyons Resort & Waldorf Astoria hotel in Park City, Utah.

I had stumbled upon one of the many ads running for this campaign in Travel + Leisure magazine's November issue. The ad reminding me of some of the challenging elements we faced during this shoot. For one, we had to work mostly outdoors everyday during a week long snow storm, The shoot included 16 models, including children, all of who had to be dressed at the same time at every location. This meant we had to pack "back-up" clothing options for every model and every possible shot before getting up on the mountain and setting up each location. Traveling in the snow on Bobcats, loading and unloading travel kits and wardrobe on and off sleds and making sure all our models looked fresh and clean with the snow making the clothes, hair and make-up wet all along.

In the end, our talented & dedicated crew proved that we can get the job done, and the campaign looking great! Here's some behind the scenes pics from the shoot that demonstrate how much is REALLY involved in getting the money shots for this campaign. It's no secret that the Missoni collection for Target debuted at your local Target stores everywhere today. It was so successful that the launch made Target's website servers crash! What no one is talking about is the rude and crude people you encountered there on your Missoni for Target run. I being a thoroughbred shopper knew to be there once those Target doors open first thing this morning. As I arrive the line of shopping carts is pretty deep by the door already. We all wait a bit and enter these two doors like a stampede of horses. I strategically B- line for the houswares section where their is a group of women already opening boxes and in full fight mode for what is left. I turn away from my shopping cart for one second and I find this woman shopping from it too! I manage to escape that situation unscathed with a few goodies I wanted. Then, I quickly head to the bike section for the Missoni cruiser that I really really deserved :-) and by a second I miss grabbing it and watch someone else load it into their shopping cart. Honestly, I was broken about it for like 5 seconds! Overall the collection did not disappoint. I left with a darling set of serving bowls, serving platters, tumblers, hand towels and the espresso set. When I finally get home, I laid it all out on the dining room table. Before I knew it I had a celebrity guest for dinner!

Obsessing over RINKO!!!!

Most of you may remember Rinko Kikuchi from her roles in "Babel" "The Brothers Bloom", "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Bang Bang". The characters she's been chosen to play have come through the screen loud and clear! This actress has the ability to look like so many different beliveable characters. Critics and Fashionistas have taken notice and so have I. After all, she's only the first Japanese actress to receive an Academy Award nomination in 50 years and was once chosen by none other than Karl Lagerfeld to be the face of Chanel.

I'm currently OBSESSED with Rinko's fresh face and sense of style to match. In an effort to inspire and be inspired, I've collected a few looks of hers through the years that have really inspired me. :-)

diNeila Brazil Founder and Designer, Neila Granzoti Rudden, showed her Spring/ Summer 2012 Swim Collection during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. This sexy collection was so St. Barth's inspired, and it showed! Along with plenty neon colors of the moment and an array of Python prints, this coming season will have over 100 unique styles and patterns. Neila's famed cut-out monokini's are perfectly fitted. Also new this season are the after the beach friendly separates, a collection of casual swim shorts and flowy jumpsuits that transition perfectly.

On my way into the intimate show, held in the Raleigh Hotel Penthouse, I bumped into John Legend! My perfect opportunity to tell him how awesome he was the night before at the Sade concert. John was there supporting his girlfriend, model Chrissy Teigen who collaborated with Neila to create an effortlessly chic 12 piece capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim....2012 (Day 1)

Miami Beach is gearing up for Mercedes -Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012. I just got back from picking up my credentials from the hotel and I can feel the excitement brewing for tonights official kick off party at The Raleigh Hotel pool deck from 8pm-10pm. The place is in full- swing with makeup artists, designers and models arriving to check in. Crew setting up tents and bars stocking up for the many drinks that will be flowing.... The fashion show that will kick off this years M.B. Fashion Week Swim 2012 is Diesel. Diesel will have Kristin Cavallari(Laguna Beach) modeling the world's first glass bikini, designed by Diesel and inspired by Skyy Vodka's iconic cobalt blue glass bottle.

The Museum of Contemporary Art's - "Surf's Up!" bash invite read; ATTIRE: Beach Chic.

In Miami, this leaves the door wide open for surf trunks and bad Hawaiian shirts. As you could imagine the night was filled with fashion faux paus. Carine Roitfeld, the editor in chief of French Vogue has announced that she will be resigning from her 10-year position at the magazine. I've always respected and admired Roitfeld's careeer because like me, she started out as a stylist and went on to become editor in chief of the influential magazine that is French Vogue. She is living proof that you can have a family and exist in this industry. Roitfeld apparently has no plan for the future but said after a decade in a job that ultimately might have limited her creativity was enough. I can surely relate to that! Many people seem to think that being a stylist who heads off a project, magazine etc. means that you have free reign on these assignments. Although this idea couldn't be farther from the truth. Seemingly, there is always a team of people that one must collaborate with and that usually make the final creative decisions. This isn't a complaint by any means. I love what I do and I wouldn't trade it for anything, creative freedom or not!

Today I feel totally inspired by Carine Roitfeld and I applaud her for her courage and perseverance at this stage in her career. I'm excited to see where she will go from here! In addition, to all of her qualities Roitfeld has an amazing sense of style and elegance. Here are some of my favorite looks she wore through the years.......

Fashion's Night Out 2010 was, THE most FUN a girl that works and lives shopping could of ever asked for! Downtown was the neighborhood my crew(including Betsy's paperdoll man, Stanley) and I chose for our F.N.O. festivities. Did I mention, that hailing a cab to go anywhere else from where you started your night, was next to impossible? Well, yes it was like Halloween and New Year's on the streets combined! Aside from that, the energy and fashion on the streets was unstoppable. This being only the 2nd annual Fashion's Night Out was not a challenge for the event. The amount of people that care about fashion in NY is unbelieveable. Have a look at the collage of candid shots, I've compiled to try to give you a feel of what the night was like. Fashion Week is well on it's way here in NYC! Kicking off the festivities last night, the queen of fashion, Anna Wintour, put on the biggest public fashion show of all time at Lincoln Center Plaza. The runway was designed in a circle catwalk around the majestic Lincoln Plaza fountain. They showed 9 segments, opening with Gisele Bundchen and closing with Naomi Cambell. Most of the hottest models in the business were present including Karolina Kurkova and Adriana Lima. The energy was soaring while Alicia Keys's "Empire State Of Mind" blasted through the speakers. Vogue really did it up with 171 different looks being shown! It was like watching a live doll show of, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Oscar De La Renta, John Galliano and Carolina Herrera and many other Fall 2010 designers. What a feast for the eyes! The point of this fashion show was to excite people about Fashion's Night Out (on September 10,) and they surely did! My favorite part of Fashion's Night Out is that a portion of all the proceeeds generated from the sale of T-shirts worn by the models that night will be donated to the Aids Fountation. So don't forget while your running around to keep an eye out for those Tees.

Earlier this month I was flipping through OK magazine, the slightly larger celebrity news magazine.... Where I find a red dress themed spread "Sexy in Scarlet" with Hollywood's hottest ladies wearing the super-hot color. Amongst the starlets are Ashley Greene, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and then I notice Jessica Biel. Although, her gown from designer Giambattista Vali fits her like a glove and her Neil Lane jewels are perfectly in place. Who overlooked her shoes?! If you look closely you will notice her pinky toe completely out of her heel. This look is so NOT sexy or OK! If a stylist dressed her, they should be fired! If Jessica Biel dressed herself for this red carpet event, Jessica this is a NO NO babe!

As I'm trekking around NYC just absorbing all of the seasons final summer looks. I start off the day on the subway. I sit next to this hip looking Asian woman on the subway that is wearing sandals that remind me of, how Summer is really ending and Fall is approaching. I guess, for me it's the mix of her super bright fun sandals and her choice of toe polish, dark and sleek. She was wearing them with cut-off jean shorts and a delicate white button down tucked in with a cool bohemian bag. Fun!

Night Owl - A Vintage Accessory store

I found a little treasure of a vintage store in the 55th street station complex on Biscayne in Miami. Inside, I meet Paloma Soyka who is a charming and passionate young woman that owns and operates this shop with her mom. As I look around, I find all kinds of goodies at many different price points. The coolest thing for me about this accessory vintage shop, is it's hours. They open at 6pm and close at 1am. Hence the name Night Owl.....

I decided to blog about these two American designers because I'm so into their passion for fashion and the enviroment. Jolie & Elizabeth, their names meaning "Pretty Promise" together. This is exactly what they are out to achieve, a pretty promise to Louisiana. All of their dresses are made in the USA and specifically right there in awesome New Orleans. Jolie & Elizabeth pride themselves in contributing to the rebuilding, revitalizing and redevelopement of Louisiana. The positive economic impact that they are helping create by utilizing untapped local labor resources to create jobs and using innovative strategies to create sustainable businesses as well as pretty dresses is their main objective. Now, with the added distress of the Gulf's oil spill it seems as if they are reaching out a bit farther to aleviate some of the destruction. Here you can reduce, re-use and recycle all of the things you use to love but are ready to part with in exchange for other fab finds. Here is the perfect opportunity to reinvent yourself or a friend. Whether you are looking to spruce up the clothes you already wear or looking to de-clutter your closet. This the place! Here's how it works: Upon arrival at Swap Miami, guests will need to check in their clothes or home decor items they no longer want. Guests will receive SC (swap currency) for each checked item.Check in begins at 12:00 and Swapping begins at 12:30 until 6pm. Guests will have the opportunity to sip on complimentary cocktails, light bites, experience new products.
